Artist's Statement

My recent series of work: Views from the Cape are oil stick paintings on paper representing various fences I discovered in remote areas of Provincetown, Truro and Wellfleet. Robert Frost wrote: Good fences make good neighbors. And while this phrase romantically, pedantically, or just plain sensibly applies as useful advice for property owners, it doesn’t necessarily apply to the beach. Here, fences expose paths to hidden mysteries, to beauty, to unexpected pleasures. Sometimes they are feeble human attempts at environmental preservation, or more positively, acts of grace to preserve the fragile landscape that beach lovers respect. They contain both a sense of history in their weathered, tilted natures, as well as introduce our enduring and endearing relationship with the sea.

I am currently represented by Julie Heller Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts and am a member of Canton Gallery on the Green and the Printmakers’ Network of Southern New England.

I work in many mediums: woodcuts, Xerox transfer prints, oil stick paintings & artist books. I graduated with a Master in Fine Arts degree from the State University of New York at Purchase and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Hartford Art School of the University of Hartford. I am the Coordinator of Family Resource Centers, Extended Day Programs and Multicultural Programs for Hartford Public Schools.
